Preparation for Biochemistry

Note to Students

Dear Students,

Welcome to the Florida Atlantic University Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine. When you begin classes this fall, you will be learning a large amount of information, and a solid foundation in biochemistry will make your first semester easier as the medically relevant aspects of biomolecules are covered in depth. The purpose of the material available on this website is to provide some basic information in biochemistry for students who have not previously taken a biochemistry course, or to serve as a review for students with a limited biochemical background. This material, which focuses on an overview of biomolecules, covers concisely the topics that would be presented in an undergraduate Biochemistry 1 course. Much of this content will not be presented in your courses this fall; rather, it will be assumed that you are familiar with this information, so it is strongly recommended that you have some knowledge of biomolecules before beginning classes. Included here are a short text book on biomolecules, accompanying power point slides, and questions on each topic with answers. If you have any questions as you go through the materials, please feel free to email me. I would also appreciate any feedback on the materials, including how useful you find them, anything you find unclear, suggestions for improvement, and any typos you find. I look forward to seeing you all in August.
