Affiliate Faculty FAQ
We would like to express our gratitude that you have joined our efforts to train knowledgeable, compassionate, and skilled medical students and physicians-to-be. We are a community based medical school and are distinctly aware of what an important role our affiliate hospitals and faculty play in our training program. Thank you for becoming a member of our strong team of medical educators and we hope that you will find your role with the medical students meaningful and rewarding.

Can affiliate faculty participate in research or scholarly activities at the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine?
Affiliate faculty may participate in research only if they collaborate with a FAU faculty member who serves as Principal Investigator. Under special circumstances, FAU affiliate faculty may serve as a PI with approval from FAU's Vice President for Research. If affiliate faculty will be collaborating with residents or med students, then they should obtain approval through College of Medicine's Office of Student Affairs or from program residency director.

Can affiliate faculty submit protocols to FAU's IRB?
Affiliate can serve as co-investigators with a FAU faculty member serving as a PI. Affiliate may not serve as PI on protocols submitted to FAU IRB except under special circumstances as mentioned above.

Can affiliate faculty utilize FAU space, staff or other resources for research or scholarly activity purposes?
Affiliate faculty members cannot use FAU space for research purposes, except under special circumstances outlined above Affiliate faculty engaging in research are responsible for being familiar with all Florida Atlantic University relevant research policies including https://www.fau.edu/research/policies-and-procedures/
