About the Comprehensive Center for Brain Health

Clinical Programs

The Comprehensive Center for Brain Health at Florida Atlantic University provides personalized care for the prevention and treatment of a variety of brain disorders. The Center has a dual focus on diagnosis and prevention of neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease, Parkinson’s disease, Lewy body dementia, frontotemporal degeneration, vascular cognitive impairment, and Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy (CTE) and other related disorders and meeting the needs of family caregivers. The Center specializes in providing customized prevention plans for individuals who are concerned with their cognitive health and neurodegenerative disease risk. In addition, intensive medical management for those who are actively struggling with neurodegenerative disorders is offered. Evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment is provided by a transdisciplinary team led by world-renowned neurologist and researcher, Dr. James Galvin, M.D., M.P.H..

Two clinical programs are offered:

The Diagnostic and Treatment Clinic  provides expert clinical evaluations and treatments for patients with a wide range of memory disorders, including Alzheimer’s disease, Lewy body dementia, frontotemporal dementia, and other neurodegenerative disorders. The Center’s team is composed of neurologists, nurse practitioners, licensed clinical social workers, and physical therapists who work in collaboration with the patient’s doctors, families, and caregivers, to optimize the outcome for each patient. This includes a comprehensive assessment to evaluate for reversible or treatable causes of impairment, beginning appropriate treatments, long-term monitoring, ongoing support, and assistance in making lifestyle modifications.

The Dementia Prevention Program  assesses an individual’s risk profile for developing neurological diseases. Using state-of-the-art diagnostic tools, principles of precision medicine, and application of cutting-edge research findings, a personalized prevention plan outlining medical, behavioral, psychological, and lifestyle changes that may modify the onset of neurodegenerative disease is then developed and implemented under the guidance of our transdisciplinary team composed of neurologists, nurse practitioners, licensed clinical social workers, and physical therapists.

Additional services for our patients include an Integrative Nutrition and Health Coaching Program; psychotherapy sessions for patients, caregivers, couples, groups, and families; and physical therapy and falls prevention.

The founder and director of the Center is James E. Galvin, M.D., M.P.H., one of the world’s leading experts in cognitive aging, dementia, and neurodegenerative diseases. Dr. Galvin has published over 200 original scientific papers, three textbooks, and directed over 50 clinical trials for dementia treatments.
